To make poems of essential use, Charles Olson wrote in 1950, poets must attend to the breath. Poems of this kind that are written, Olson adds, by those who compose by the breath and who also listen. He calls this method Projective Verse. I suspect Olson would consider this album by Rob Mazurek recorded at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas, in buildings where works by Donald Judd and John Chamberlain are installed, a kind of Projective Verse on the piccolo trumpet.
