For this third album of Fire and Water Quintet, Myra Melford set out to sustain continuity and momentum, while also stimulating creative growth with new inspirations—including the idea of developing a cellular compositional mode flexible enough to evolve with input from the four other musicians, Ingrid Luaborck, Mary Halvorson, Tomeka Reid and Lesley Mok, each a formidable composer and bandleader in her own right.
